“Der Tod der Jane Lawrence” – Eigene Meinung:
Das Cover und der Klappentext haben mich direkt magisch angezogen. Düsteres Setting, britische Inseln und 19. Jahrhundert…was will man mehr?! So beginnt auch diese Geschichte überaus vielversprechend und spannend. Auch die wissbegierige Jane, die sich gern mit Zahlen und Büchern umgibt, schloss ich ins Herz. Ihre unkonventionelle Art einen Ehemann zu finden um sich all ihre Wünsche, Träume und Lebensvorstellungen zu bewahren, empfand ich als erfrischend. Trotz der Sachlichkeit, unter deren Bedingungen die Ehe zwischen Jane und Dr. Lawrence geschlossen wird, entstehen dennoch ein paar kleine „Knister-Vibes“, bei denen man hofft, dass die symphytische Protagonistin ihr Glück findet.
Die Geschichte an sich ließ sich einfach und gleichwohl prägnant lesen. Ein bisschen unklar war das genaue Zeitalter, in dem es handelt, denn es wird nie so genau wiedergegeben. Im Nachhinein würde ich es auf Grund der „erlesenen“ Fakten in das Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts oder Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts eines fiktiven Großbritanniens packen.
Bis zur Mitte des Buches war ich sehr begeistert und bin nur so durch die Seiten geflogen. Zu neugierig war ich, endlich hinter die düsteren und schaurigen Geheimnisse des Doktors und dem verkommen Landsitz „Lindridge Hall“ zu kommen. Auch kleine erste Schauermomente waren dabei, die ich mochte. Allerdings kippe ab der besagten Hälfte dann bei mir die Stimmung. Es wurde langatmig und seeehr verworren. Die bis Dato einem Edgar Allen Poe anmutende Geschichte wurde zu einem, für mich, chaotischen und konfusen Trip, der sich irgendwie wie in einem Drogenrausch las.
Die letzten Etappen habe ich mich förmlich durch das Buch quälen müssen, in der Hoffnung, dass der Abschluss doch noch die erhoffte Erleuchtung bringt, die ich erwartete. Leider blieb sie aus.
Fazit:
Eine Geschichte mit grandiosem Start, das aber mit fortschreitender Handlung die Spannung und das eigentlich vorhandene Potenzial nicht aufrecht erhalten konnte.
